Who can compete at the Capital Cup?
All undergraduate and graduate students from Canadian universities and colleges are welcome! Unfortunately, the competition is closed to students who are currently attending professional law schools.
I have never done this before. Can I/Should I compete?
Absolutely! There will be participants from a variety of different backgrounds and with different levels of experience. Many novices have won awards or proceeded to final rounds at other competitions.
Who will the judges be?
Judges will represent the legal profession in the National Capital Region and will be composed of actual judges, lawyers, professors and law students.
What type of case will this year’s tournament be based on?
The case for the 2017 Capital Cup Tournament has not been announced.
Where is everything happening?
The preliminary, quarterfinal, and semifinal rounds will be taking place at Canada’s Capital University, Carleton University. The final round will once again take place at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Is food provided?
Yes. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided on both competition days. There will also be a
banquet dinner (included in registration) on the 4th.
Can my family come and watch?
Yes! All venues will be open to the public. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to open the banquet to guests other than participants, judges and sponsors.
How do I pay my team or group’s registration fees?

Who is running this event?
The 7th Annual Capital Cup is hosted by the Carleton Law Society and run by Carleton University students and alumni.
